Joint Cubs and Scouts Summer Camp at Longridge

Cubs from St Benedict's and St Peter's pack and Scouts from Walpole troop got together at Longridge on the banks of the Thames for a water-based activity weekend.

They began with pitching tents



Followed by a picnic dinner and washing up before lights out:




Saturday morning began with some warm up exercises:



And then a hearty breakfast:

Which we needed for dragon boat racing along the River Thames:



We returned to our campsite for a tent and kit inspection


and some free time


After lunch we were back on the water for stand-up paddle boarding







And for those on dry land, some skipping practice


Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and the heavens opened monsoon-style during dinner. The whole group showed resilience by sheltering in the mess tent and began singing campfire songs:


But the sun came out again which allowed Cubs and Scouts to do the dishes


and with some excellent backwoods skills we built a campfire and toasted our pudding


and had some popcorn too


Sunday morning began again with some warm-ups and ball skills



We had a period of reflection


And a scavenger hunt and hike up Winter Hill, which had excellent views over the surrounding area



Everyone returned home tired but happy after an exhilarating weekend. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped organise the camp.

1EN Group Spring Camp 2024 - Cubs

All 1EN sections got together again for a one-night group camp at Walter Davies Scout Camp. We began with our usual flag breaking ceremony to open the camp, but this time it was slightly different... Our Walpole and Pitshanger Scout troops were presented with new flags and the old flag was formally retired Cubs and Beavers were given a safety briefing of dos and do nots while on camp Once tents had been erected and bags put away, there was time for a quick game of hide and seek and Sardines (hide and seek in reverse!) in the woods After lunch, Cubs took part in an Olympic-style sports day with lots of team activities They then had an upper body workout with some bouldering A spot of air rifle shooting And a sensory workout with a blind trail With so many activities and a long day behind them, everyone was grateful for a delicious spag bol made by our excellent kitchen team The washing up was done by moonlight As temperatures dropped, everyone gathered around the campfire for songs an...

1EN/8E Battle of Britain Bunker Sleepover

70 Beavers and Cubs from both 1st Ealing North and 8th Ealing got together for an unforgettable sleepover at the Battle of Britain Bunker.   It flew by! After dropping our bags off we were welcomed by an active RAF helicopter pilot with a very special job. So many questions... and no, there are no toilets on his helicopter.  After a quick bite, it was on to the activities. Starting with making our own RAF squadron badges: Building some straw rocket planes Lego flying contraptions And, of course, a tour of the historically significant Battle of Britain bunker.  This was followed by a late night treat and a movie. It was then time to get down and sleep under the Spitfire and Hurricane. Don't forget your soft toy! After (some) sleep it was time for breakfast.  After which everyone gathered outside for flag break and a few moments of reflection. There was just enough time to explore the rest of the museum before heading home.  Amazing!

Cubs Summer Camp 2024: Be prepared for rain and more rain!

We approached summer camp with trepidation as the forecast was looking decidedly unsummery. The van and bags were packed for Paccar... for all eventualities... Cubs set up their tents while the leaders set up the mess tent And got to know each other better We began with our usual Grand Howl and a rundown of dos and don'ts while on site   After a busy evening unpacking and setting up camp, the leaders take a break Before continuing with a bit of torchlight washing up late into the evening It was a bit of grey morning, but some breakfast and some energiser activites woke everyone up, ready for a full day's activities It began with laser tag Which was as popular with leaders as it was with Cubs A bit of assault course scrambling And then a gladiator challenge, made more challenging with a spot of rain But the skies lighten up after a while And after a busy morning, Cubs had a bit of time to kick back and and enjoy exploring the woods before lunch  After a filling lunch, Cubs took...
