Camporee 2023

It's the school holidays so that must mean it's time for Camporee! Cubs from all the groups around Ealing & Hanwell gathered at Walter Davies Camp Site at Stoke Poges for two and a half days of having fun and making new friends. The  things year was Space - To Infinity And Beyond! (no copyright was breached!)


Just like our normal pack meetings, we began with an energetic Grand Howl

Followed by some laser tag

A snack of some zingy Jamaican ginger cake

Followed by water propelled plastic bottle rockets

With a bit of spare time before dinner to enjoy the adventure playground

After a tasty dinner of sausage and mash, the Cubs formed teams to play a space-themed version of Family Fortunes. Despite all the activities the Chinese still had plenty of energy, so bedtime was a bit of a dream out affair!

Monday morning began with a hearty fry up

Which sustained Cubs through a busy day's activities. They included baking cakes

Pioneering flag poles and designing a flag for their planet or astronomical object:

Cubs also completed an orienteering course around the campsite which included constellations and famous astronauts and cosmonauts. They also tried their hand at firing arrows at the on site archery range.

Dinner was very popular! It was pasta-based (first big tick) and there was enough for everyone to have a second helping (second big tick).

After dinner, it was time to perform drama sketches whilst sheltering from the rain.

Unsurprisingly, after a busy day's activities, Cubs were quick to bed and it was a quiet and uneventful night.

By morning, the rain had passed and it was bright and sunny

Which have Cubs time to pack everything including the kitchen sink

Followed by pancakes for breakfast and some washing up

We welcomed the new arrivals

And together enjoyed inflatables, gel blasters and bubble football


And rounded the day of with a katsu curry

1EN/8E Battle of Britain Bunker Sleepover

70 Beavers and Cubs from both 1st Ealing North and 8th Ealing got together for an unforgettable sleepover at the Battle of Britain Bunker.   It flew by! After dropping our bags off we were welcomed by an active RAF helicopter pilot with a very special job. So many questions... and no, there are no toilets on his helicopter.  After a quick bite, it was on to the activities. Starting with making our own RAF squadron badges: Building some straw rocket planes Lego flying contraptions And, of course, a tour of the historically significant Battle of Britain bunker.  This was followed by a late night treat and a movie. It was then time to get down and sleep under the Spitfire and Hurricane. Don't forget your soft toy! After (some) sleep it was time for breakfast.  After which everyone gathered outside for flag break and a few moments of reflection. There was just enough time to explore the rest of the museum before heading home.  Amazing!

Cubs Summer Camp 2024: Be prepared for rain and more rain!

We approached summer camp with trepidation as the forecast was looking decidedly unsummery. The van and bags were packed for Paccar... for all eventualities... Cubs set up their tents while the leaders set up the mess tent And got to know each other better We began with our usual Grand Howl and a rundown of dos and don'ts while on site   After a busy evening unpacking and setting up camp, the leaders take a break Before continuing with a bit of torchlight washing up late into the evening It was a bit of grey morning, but some breakfast and some energiser activites woke everyone up, ready for a full day's activities It began with laser tag Which was as popular with leaders as it was with Cubs A bit of assault course scrambling And then a gladiator challenge, made more challenging with a spot of rain But the skies lighten up after a while And after a busy morning, Cubs had a bit of time to kick back and and enjoy exploring the woods before lunch  After a filling lunch, Cubs took...

1st Ealing North Scouts meet 75th Kowloon Scouts

Scouting is a worldwide movement with young people taking p art in 174 countries. To experience that, a few visiting members from 1 st Ealing North took time out from their holiday to visit 75 th Kowloon Scouts, based in Hong Kong. 1EN Leaders, Lior and Iris, together with Explorer Scouts, Timothy, Dorothy and Kai were warmly welcomed in. A big thank you to Antonio, Boris and the entire 75 th Kowloon team for their hospitality. It was a wonderful, life-affirming experience.
