Golden Coaches and Remembrance



The 1EN Beavers and their families had a wonderful trip to see the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 11th November. 

After taking the Elizabeth Line to Farringdon station we emerged to empty streets and the sound of bagpipes rehearsing. A short walk and the beavers were able to watch all the waiting floats, dancers, military personnel and participating groups in preparations for the parade. Following a brief stop at Metrobank for a lollipop we took up position outside the Guildhall to observe our two minute silence and watch the parade come past. The Beavers had a lot of fun collecting high fives from participants as they passed by us and a big highlight was the golden coach itself! We were very lucky to have such a great spot and such lovely sunshine to watch it in.

A big thank you also to the Beavers who joined us on the Sunday for the Remembrance parade and service at the Ealing War Memorial.

1EN Group Spring Camp 2024 - Cubs

All 1EN sections got together again for a one-night group camp at Walter Davies Scout Camp. We began with our usual flag breaking ceremony to open the camp, but this time it was slightly different... Our Walpole and Pitshanger Scout troops were presented with new flags and the old flag was formally retired Cubs and Beavers were given a safety briefing of dos and do nots while on camp Once tents had been erected and bags put away, there was time for a quick game of hide and seek and Sardines (hide and seek in reverse!) in the woods After lunch, Cubs took part in an Olympic-style sports day with lots of team activities They then had an upper body workout with some bouldering A spot of air rifle shooting And a sensory workout with a blind trail With so many activities and a long day behind them, everyone was grateful for a delicious spag bol made by our excellent kitchen team The washing up was done by moonlight As temperatures dropped, everyone gathered around the campfire for songs an...

1EN/8E Battle of Britain Bunker Sleepover

70 Beavers and Cubs from both 1st Ealing North and 8th Ealing got together for an unforgettable sleepover at the Battle of Britain Bunker.   It flew by! After dropping our bags off we were welcomed by an active RAF helicopter pilot with a very special job. So many questions... and no, there are no toilets on his helicopter.  After a quick bite, it was on to the activities. Starting with making our own RAF squadron badges: Building some straw rocket planes Lego flying contraptions And, of course, a tour of the historically significant Battle of Britain bunker.  This was followed by a late night treat and a movie. It was then time to get down and sleep under the Spitfire and Hurricane. Don't forget your soft toy! After (some) sleep it was time for breakfast.  After which everyone gathered outside for flag break and a few moments of reflection. There was just enough time to explore the rest of the museum before heading home.  Amazing!

Cubs Summer Camp 2024: Be prepared for rain and more rain!

We approached summer camp with trepidation as the forecast was looking decidedly unsummery. The van and bags were packed for Paccar... for all eventualities... Cubs set up their tents while the leaders set up the mess tent And got to know each other better We began with our usual Grand Howl and a rundown of dos and don'ts while on site   After a busy evening unpacking and setting up camp, the leaders take a break Before continuing with a bit of torchlight washing up late into the evening It was a bit of grey morning, but some breakfast and some energiser activites woke everyone up, ready for a full day's activities It began with laser tag Which was as popular with leaders as it was with Cubs A bit of assault course scrambling And then a gladiator challenge, made more challenging with a spot of rain But the skies lighten up after a while And after a busy morning, Cubs had a bit of time to kick back and and enjoy exploring the woods before lunch  After a filling lunch, Cubs took...
