Cubs Summer Camp 2024: Be prepared for rain and more rain!

We approached summer camp with trepidation as the forecast was looking decidedly unsummery.

The van and bags were packed for Paccar... for all eventualities...

Cubs set up their tents while the leaders set up the mess tent

And got to know each other better

We began with our usual Grand Howl and a rundown of dos and don'ts while on site

After a busy evening unpacking and setting up camp, the leaders take a break

Before continuing with a bit of torchlight washing up late into the evening

It was a bit of grey morning, but some breakfast and some energiser activites woke everyone up, ready for a full day's activities

It began with laser tag

Which was as popular with leaders as it was with Cubs

A bit of assault course scrambling

And then a gladiator challenge, made more challenging with a spot of rain

But the skies lighten up after a while

And after a busy morning, Cubs had a bit of time to kick back and and enjoy exploring the woods before lunch

After a filling lunch, Cubs took aim with tomahawk throwing

And, with a bit of practice, hit the target!

They also had a go at the climbing wall, carefully choosing their route to get to the top of the wall

And sometimes letting go!

After a packed day, Cubs came back to a tasty meal of chili con carne with a slice of camp garlic bread

And jalapeƱos for the braver ones

Dinner was followed by washing up

And then...camp kebabs - apples with cinnamon, pineapple and marshmallow.

After a long day, staring into the flames is quite relaxing

Sunday brought more rain, soaking our canvas tents

And some unwelcome visitors as a result of illicit snacks

But a tasty breakfast with some unplanned omelettes was well received

And an impromptu birthday celebration

And the weather began to turn the corner

Cubs had been helping each other and working together since arriving on camp. They considered teamwork during Scouts Own

After spending much of the morning packing up kit, Cubs got to test their navigation skills with some orienteering around the campsite

After a tasty lunch

After returning to HQ, unpacking the van and handibg out camp badges, we dismissed tired but happy Cubs back to their families.
