Camp skills

Image
The Cubs have been getting ready for this weekend's camp the last couple of weeks by practising putting up and taking down their tents. They also tried their hand at building shelters outside in the park.  As all good Cubs know, their is nothing better than being prepared. Thanks to all the leaders and helpers.

Twisted firestarters

Image
This week our Scouts learned about and then practiced their firebuilding skills. Important as they will be cooking on open fires at this weekend’s camp. The triangle of fire, grading firewood, laying the fire and tending it all key (along with twisting newspaper to start the fire). All rounded off with marshmallow toasting!

Scouts go Back to the Future

Image
Channelling Marty McFly, our Scouts learnt about how the Scouting movement has developed and then imagined what Scouts will be doing in 2075. They came up with uniform, badge and camping ideas for the future. It seems VR will feature heavily and grass less so!

International Night

Last week, the Cubs went international, exploring what it is like to be a Cub Scout in three different countries as well as  learning about their cultures.  Akela kicked off the session by sharing stories from his recent trip to Hong Kong, where he had the pleasure of meeting Cub and Scout packs from the 75th Kowloon Scouts. He also brought along pictures, badges, and snacks to share from his travels. Next, we flew to Singapore with parent helpers Fairus and Sheriza, who taught the Cubs traditional Singaporean games from their childhood which were a big hit with all!. Fairus also shared his old Scouts uniform from his time as a Scout back home. We wrapped up our trip by learning all about Italy from Kaa in her Italian uniform from her time as a Scout back home on the Italian Lakes. The cubs played a sensory game where they guessed herbs from their scent, and learnt about the Italian dishes they’re used in, and explored  the history and geography from the regions the dishe...

Scouts Get a Slice of the Action!

Image
Friday night was all about dough, toppings, and plenty of delicious fun as our Scouts tried their hands at making homemade pizzas! Under the expert guidance of Corrado, one of our leaders (and a trained chef), they learnt the art of kneading dough, rolling out perfect bases, and choosing the best toppings to create their own mouth-watering masterpieces. Of course, no cooking session would be complete without the best part—tasting their creations! Safe to say, there were no leftovers by the end of the night. A big thank you to Corrado for sharing his skills and making it such a fantastic, hands-on experience!

Pizzatastic

Under the careful tutelage of Corrado, one of our leaders with professional chef training, our Scouts learned how to make pizza dough, roll bases, add toppings and cook. Eating pizzas it seems was a skill they already had
