Cubs Get Stuck In at Pioneering Night

Last week, 1st Ealing North Cubs rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on with pioneering — learning traditional Scouting skills through rope-making, knot-tying, and gadget-building.

Rope-Making
We started by making colourful ropes from wool. Cubs twisted strands together to create strong, bright ropes.

Lashing Practice
Next up was a crash course in lashings. After learning the Sheet Bend and Square Lashing, Cubs practiced securing poles and building confidence with their knot work.

Gadget Building
The final challenge: build a working structure.  The cubs used  square lashings to create sturdy crossbar frames - perfect for a shelter, as well as tacking figure-of-Eight Lashings to build tripods

The results were solid — and held up to the test.

A Great Evening All Round
From twisting rope to building gadgets, the Cubs showed fantastic teamwork, focus, and problem-solving. Thanks to all the leaders and helpers who made it happen.
