We wanted to shake off those post Covid blues so we headed off one Friday evening to Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast in search of fun and adventure. With the excitement of the camp, the Scouts were still awake laughing at 1 am!
On Saturday, the inflatables at Dorset Adventure park were our first stop. This was followed by a much needed rest and a lunch of burgers and cake We then donned old clothes to head off into the unknowns of a 2 km mud obstacle course where we were dished with all different varieties of mud possible. Thankfully a warm shower afterwards cleaned off most of our clothes and hair.
Our next destination was a beautiful late afternoon 8 km hike along the Jurassic Coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. We entered at Durdle Door and exited at Ringstead Bay. It was wonderful to breathe fresh sea air and see the waves crashing onto the beaches below.
Sunday kicked off with a bit of drizzle so we left the tents up to dry and headed to Monkey World, an ape rescue centre with a wide variety of monkeys and apes. The Scouts split into 3 teams with leaders in tow and had the most fun at the ape playground with climbing frames, swings and tunnels.
After lunch and striking camp, we headed to the Tank Museum where we had a tour through First World War trenches with comparisons of German, French and British trenches. The Scouts then disappeared to all four corners of the museum where they could explore a variety of tanks, view the displays and try on kit and clothing.
We had an uneventful trip back with a pit stop at a local service station along the way arriving back at HQ at 8pm.
