We swapped the meeting hall for the park this week, equipped with spars, lashing rope, and a straightforward challenge: build a tripod worth sitting on.
The task was the same for both troops. Using three eight-foot spars and a supply of shorter ones and lashing rope, each patrol had to build a tripod capable of holding the whole patrol off the ground. First patrol to finish earned first pick of the biscuits or ice cream.

Two Walpole Scouts focused on their lashing
Walpole met on Wednesday evening and set to work in the park, patrols spreading out across the grass with their equipment. A leader demo at the outset gave everyone at least a common reference point.
Pitshanger had the Friday session. By that point London had warmed up considerably, and uniform was set aside in favour of summer clothes. The ice cream helped to cool everyone down.
Both troops were successful: patrols discovering that their tripods not only stood, but held. Not just the weight of the structure, but several Scouts at once.

The Water Activity Camp is a fortnight away, a perfect opportunity for everyone to cool off.
