This week, the Pitshanger Scouts set out to find out who has the best chips on Pitshanger Lane. Walpole will do the same next week and we’ll see if they agree. Walpole spent this week learning about water safety theory before the upcoming water camp.

For Pitshanger, the brief was to walk from the HQ down to Pitshanger Lane, visit three shops, sample the chips at each, and then vote for the best. Full uniform was replaced by summer clothes to help manage the heat.

Three shops were assessed: Blue Ocean, West Kebab, and Chicken Cottage. Each received a visit and the Scouts purchased a portion of chips; each had its supporters. The vote put Chicken Cottage in first place, though the result carries a small asterisk: Chicken Cottage is understood to have provided one group with a complimentary portion, which some have suggested may have shaped the outcome. A VAR review was requested. The request was declined. The verdict stands.

With water safety theory covered on Wednesday and chip research completed on Friday, both troops go into the Water Activity Camp next weekend well prepared. The last meeting of term follows on the tenth of July.
