The Scouts were given an extra hour in bed on Thursday, the rain having come in overnight and settled in for the day. It was the heaviest rain this part of Wales has had since June.

The morning went on pioneering. Each patrol put up a four metre tripod tower, which gave them an opportunity to practise their lashings. Work carried on in parallel on the monkey bridge, more on this later.
The shopping trolley
The Scouts were taken in to Abergavenny to shop for the competition meal and to explore the town. Later in the day the patrols returned to their patrol areas to prepare the meal and the all-important entertainment.

The first meals came out between seven and eight, cooked over fire and served in the patrol areas. The entertainment included, at one point, the Falcons patrol taking shots of hot sauce, which the Scouts took with grace. A few Scouts were seen sweating!

Friday was the last of the three activity days: abseiling and gorge walking at Sychryd.

Hot showers followed the activity day. There was a little spare time to finish the monkey bridge and test it out. It provides a fun way to come down the gentle hill at the side of the campsite.

Dinner was fish and chips from a shop, which the Scouts demolished after a day of activities.
Looking ahead: Saturday is the start of packing up, Scouts' Own and the FEN games, with the tuck shop and the last campfire of the camp to end it. Then Sunday, and home.
