Golden Coaches and Remembrance

Image
The  1EN Beavers and their families had a wonderful trip to see the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 11th November.  After taking the Elizabeth Line to Farringdon station we emerged to empty streets and the sound of bagpipes rehearsing. A short walk and the beavers were able to watch all the waiting floats, dancers, military personnel and participating groups in preparations for the parade. Following a brief stop at Metrobank for a lollipop we took up position outside the Guildhall to observe our two minute silence and watch the parade come past. The Beavers had a lot of fun collecting high fives from participants as they passed by us and a big highlight was the golden coach itself! We were very lucky to have such a great spot and such lovely sunshine to watch it in. A big thank you also to the Beavers who joined us on the Sunday for the Remembrance parade and service at the Ealing War Memorial.

Science in action for 1EN Cubs

1EN Cubs Had an amazing chance to don some white coats and see some more science in action. Our thanks go to Gabi and the GSK team for making some of the experiments possible.  Using a microscope, for real! Making the tallest possible tower with pasta and grapes. Know where your funny bone is?  Growing cress (to eat one hopes)  Making raisins dance in lemonade

Scouts Ahoy!

Image
The Scouts went on a fantastic trip to Chatham Dockyard this term. The group of Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders got to Chatham via public transport and on arrival explored the Dockyard. They learnt about how ships were made and then set out to explore HMS Gannet and HMS Cavalier. We also had a fascinating time touring HMS Ocelot, a Royal Navy submarine. A highlight of the trip was learning how to make rope in the Victorian Ropery. Many thanks to Leader Terry for his hard work in planning such an informative and fun trip.

St Benedict Cubs had an amazing chance to learn more about Diwali, the festival of light, India's biggest and most important holiday of the year.  Learning about the clothes, customers and the delicious foods, not forgetting the sparklers outside. Thank you to everyone that helped out, especially Nisha our friend from 25th Ealing Cubs.

They turned cream into butter by shaking it in a jar They found their pulse and then tried to increase it by excercising They made catapults and used different designs to see which could launch a piece of Lego the furthest.  And, they explored density by getting an egg to float in water by adding salt
